Department of Public Safety

The Rockford University (RU) RU Department of Public Safety is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life by providing a safe and secure environment conducive to learning and consistent with this diverse institution’s educational goals. The RU Department of Public Safety is committed to a professional, proactive, community-orientated approach to campus safety while recognizing that our staff, faculty, students, and the community we serve are our most important assets.

The RU Department of Public Safety employs three full-time and one part-time armed public safety officer. Rockford University has contracted with State Protection Service to provide public safety officers. The Department of Public Safety is staffed and operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

 If the safety and welfare of any University community member or visitor are at risk, please call 9-1-1 before contacting the Department of Public Safety.

Please notify the Department of Public Safety immediately if you need assistance or an incident occurs where University property is damaged. The department has a long-standing relationship with the Rockford Police Department, the Rockford Fire Department, and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, including the city’s emergency medical and ambulance services. RU Department of Public Safety works in conjunction with the Residence Life staff and assists in the event of any emergency or problem.
